On June 27th 2008 owners Jim and Kathy Antonowitsch hosted an anniversary luncheon to commemorate Oasis Treatment Center’s 20th year of service to the recovering community. Celebrating with friends, family, colleges, and alumni Jim and Kathy shared their reflections of those first years and how it all began.
It was 1962, she was 17 and he was 21. They fell in love instantly and were married 6 months later. They started their life off with dreams and hopes as most young couples do, but had no idea what their future would have in store for them. In late 1981, Jim was a man who had it all; beautiful homes, a successful and thriving landscape business, a loving family and a chronic addiction to alcohol that was threatening to take it all away. By early 1982, a sick man; emotionally, physically, and spiritually; committed to get sober after a series of demoralizing events. He was determined to save his life and his family.

Although Jim was able to stop drinking for 2 years, his life continued to spiral down and he hit an emotional bottom. As fate would have it, he met a man that was also sober but doing things a little different, he was involved in a program called Alcoholics Anonymous and he was more than happy to introduce this program to Jim. Little did they know in those early AA years just what kind of miracles were waiting for them and where this journey of recovery would lead them.

Now being 7 years sober and working with over 50 other Alcoholics, it came to Jim that he could do more. He and Kathy had a dream to find a way to give back what had been given to them. They decided they would open a recovery house, a place where people could come to get the help that they needed. Kathy knew it could not be just any treatment center but a place of love and forgiveness, a place to begin again and learn a whole new way of living. Kathy was determined to find the perfect place and she did. Not everyone could see the vision Kathy had when she first saw the house; but Jim did. Others saw an old beat down crack house that should be condemned but Kathy and Jim saw their dream. Once the owner of the property heard what Kathy and Jim had planned for the house, he sold it to them and the dream began.

In the beginning it was just Jim, Kathy, a house manager, cook, and a part time counselor. It didn?t take long before the word got out and as the number of clients grew so did the staff. More and more people came, got sober and stayed sober. Something very miraculous happened; it became a family. With people coming back each year to pick up chips for lengths of sobriety at a meeting they call Fireside it was becoming clear that this was a house of love where miracles were born. Jim did the Fireside meeting every week, worked with the residents, ran the business end of things, did spirituality groups, and helped to make Oasis what it is today. Kathy did various jobs over the years but her greatest gift is her Love Group that she does every week. During love group Kathy passes out treats and reads children’s stories. Through this group, Kathy found a way to remind those affected by addiction that they are worthy of love, life, and forgiveness.

Twenty years and thousands of residents later, the couple is a little older, a little wiser and not that much different. Jim will still promise every single client that he will tell them the truth, teach them what he knows, give them the tools to stay sober and share his life with them. Kathy will still love each person, regardless of who they are, where they came from, or what they have done. Jim and Kathy have had their own hardships over the years; their only son was killed by a drug addict, but their commitment to the Oasis has remained true. On any holiday you can find them at the center, celebrating with their “Family”. While Jim is past retirement age, you will not find him at home enjoying all he has accomplished. Your best bet is at Oasis, talking to an addict or alcoholic, teaching a spirituality group, leading a fireside meeting or helping the staff. Kathy will be in her love group each Friday, reminding people that they are loved and that there is hope.
Jim and Kathy had a vision 20 years ago and it surpassed their wildest dreams. Oasis’s original logo “Love Will Give You Wings.” has continued to give the residents their wings to stay alive. And when asked what the future holds for the Antonowitsch’s ; for the most part, they plan to spend it with their “Family”; the Oasis Treatment Center.

The Owners Dream...

More than two decades ago Jim and Kathy Antonowitsch stood on the porch of the 80 year old house they had just purchased and renovated while welcoming in the first Client into the Oasis Treatment Center. Behind that client a promise was made. A promise that they would show each resident love and hope.

That the Oasis program would always strongly encourage spiritual development and they would never lose sight of the purpose of this house, to help those plagued by addiction, regain their lives and learn how to live as Jim himself had seven years earlier. Oasis would always be a spiritual home teaching love, strength, structure and hope. Oasis would be a long term treatment center with a treatment program of 30 days up to 2 years to be determined on an individual basis.

Their commitment to the Oasis and its residents would be drastically tested when their Son, Mark, was killed less than two blocks away from the house itself. The driver that took the life of their Son was an intoxicated addict! Kathy said “it was the love of the alumni and the residents that helped to pull her out of her sorrow” Jim would include “We decided we would continue to work with those addicted to prevent as many families as we could from the suffering we were experiencing. If that the man who killed my son had ever been to a program such as ours my son would be alive today”. And so they continued….

Jim knew that more would be revealed and that need became apparent three years later. In 1991 Jim took note that it seemed to be unusually difficult for some of his clients to follow the program and get better. He sought out doctors and other professionals for a solution. The issue soon became clear. Certain patients were suffering from a chemical imbalance as well as an addiction. Treating either/or had a teeter-totter effect. The solution, to treat both at the same time using non narcotic medication. A psychiatrist was added to the Oasis team and one of Americas first dual diagnosis treatment centers was created.

It has been 23 years and Jim and Kathy are celebrating their 50th year of marriage. Jim now celebrates his 29th year of being sober They have kept all the promises they made over two decades ago. The now 100 year old house still welcomes in those seeking a life in recovery. The couple is often asked when they plan to retire?

Jim's answer “You retire from a job and this is not our job, this is our family. You don’t ever retire from your family”……….and out of love for their “family” they continue.

Oasis Treatment Center | Orange County, California

At Oasis Treatment Center, we regard the treatment of alcoholism & chemical dependency as a lifelong process. Our treatment helps individuals call upon their own personal, psychological and spiritual resources as a result of the following therapeutic processes:

Medical Evaluation and Treatment:
A detailed medical history of the individual is prepared which includes childhood diseases, hospitalizations, alcohol/drug abuse patterns, past treatments (if any), current medications, etc. The patient is then given a physical examination. Upon completion, recommen-dations are made to the individual and staff of how best to proceed in detoxification and recovery.

Dual Diagnosis Assessment:Patients are given a personalized evaluation for a possible secondary psychological diagnosis that may include Bi Polar disorder, anxiety, depression or others. If necessary patients are then referred to our staff psychiatrist and an individual treatment plan is established. read more

Dual Diagnosis | Oasis Treatment Center | Dual Diagnosis Program | Alcohol Dependency Treatment | Chemical Dependency Treatment Center: "Whether anxiety, depression, Bi Polar disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive disorder or other condition, we at Oasis believe that a total approach toward each individual provides the best opportunity for physical, emotional and spiritual recovery. Addressing only part of a problem means that a client leaves treatment with undressed issues, and relapse is more likely. For example, a person who completes 30 days and leaves treatment as a sober alcoholic but does not accept and address his depression is at high risk for relapse."

Dual Diagnosis is our Focus at Oasis Treatment Center

A growing percentage of persons currently entering Alcohol/Chemical Dependence treatment facilities, are diagnosed with dual disorders. This challenges the client and the treatment facility to develop a plan in which all issues are addressed in the treatment experience. Here at Oasis we are a part of that solution.

Whether anxiety, depression, Bi Polar disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive disorder or other condition, we at Oasis believe that a total approach toward each individual provides the best opportunity for physical, emotional and spiritual recovery. Addressing only part of a problem means that a client leaves treatment with undressed issues, and relapse is more likely. For example, a person who completes 30 days and leaves treatment as a sober alcoholic but does not accept and address his depression is at high risk for relapse. Another Amazing Testimonial of Love & Healing at Oasis

July 21, 2010

Dearest Jim and ALL staff,

Nine months ago my mother can to you with absolutely no desire to live, no self worth, and a debilitating disease eating away at her soul. She was hesitant at first to complete even thirty days of treatment, but over the months something changed. She slowly began sounding more positive and in control. I knew the Oasis had to be doing something right.

The first time I came down South to visit my mom in treatment I was anxious to say the least. The last memory I had of her was in the hospital, incubated. Upon our arrival, my Grandmother and I were welcomed with hugs and the utmost hospitality. We were invited to some wonderful meetings and I was able to complete a process with my mom. Each visit we made after that held same warm welcome. And every time we came, my mom was happier and healthier.

Now, my mom is home and doing SO well! She has been adjusting to life with the most amazing attitude, and has that "Spirit" that my family and I missed SO much. Her hard work got her to this new place, but also the support from you and everyone at Oasis who care so much! I want to thank you from the deepest part of my heart for helping save my mothers life. I can't express how thankful I am to have her back. I hope you know how admirable you all are and that you touch lives... Thank you so very much... Hope my mom and I can come visit soon.

Love,
Danielle Jennings

Oasis Treatment featured on Oprah

Oasis has been featured many times on A & Intervention, in addition to being featured on Oprah.

Cocaine is a powerfully addictive stimulant drug. The powdered, hydrochloride salt form of cocaine can be snorted or dissolved in water and injected. Crack is cocaine that has not been neutralized by an acid to make the hydrochloride salt. This form of cocaine comes in a rock crystal that can be heated and its vapors smoked. The term “crack” refers to the crackling sound heard when it is heated.

Regardless of how cocaine is used or how frequently, a user can experience acute cardiovascular or cerebrovascular emergencies, such as a heart attack or stroke, which could result in sudden death. Cocaine-related deaths are often a result of cardiac arrest or seizure followed by respiratory arrest. For more information please visit our site.

Oasis Treatment Center Testimonials...

Drug Rehabilitation Programs | California Alcohol Rehab | Dual Diagnosis Treatment Center | Residential Alcohol Treatment | Addiction Recovery

August 2006

Dear Jim,

Last night the process with Becky was a very powerful and exhilarating experience. I was afraid she was going to choose going home after only two weeks. I truly believe that the reason for her decision to stay for two more weeks was directly related to theLord working through you. I have never met a man so dedicated to his work and thus his patients/clients as you. It was truly a bit of Divine intervention when I called Mr. Mercer and he introduced me to you. You were quick to return my call, even though your plate must have been running over with all that you have to do coupled with getting ready for a well earned vacation.

Our telephone conversation was most enlightening and right to the point. Jim, there is no way I can thank you for all your efforts and the efforts of Lindley, David and the rest of your staff. They are superb, world class, over the top and besides that they are darn good. The Good Lord too inspires them.

I know there are no guarantees in this business, but at least Becky is not taking off the cast after 12 days. I am praying that God will continue to guide her during her recovery. We'll take it a day at a time.

I look forward to working with you and Becky as she progresses. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I now see a path to regaining a beautiful daughter. Feel free to share this with Becky and be sure to tell her I love her very much and I am very proud of her decision. We will take good care of her kids as she regains her health.

Thank you (this just doesn't adequately express my feeling towards you & your staff.)

Mike H."

Testimonials for Oasis Treatment Center | Orange County California

January 1, 2008

Dear Jim,

Happy New Year!!!!! As Jon and I were ringing in the New Year last night, we were reminiscing about 2007, counting our blessings and as always we remember that it was two years ago, New Year's Day that we escorted Kimmie to Oasis. I'll never forget how I felt that day- full of hope, relief, and gratitude that at the very least Kimmie would give treatment one more try. We were so impressed that you took the time on New Year's Day to come meet with us. Jon and I knew if we could get Kimmie to Oasis she'd have a fighting chance to get well. We could feel the warmth and love you and your staff had to offer even on tv!!!!

I am so happy and so very proud to tell you that Kimmie's doing so well, and in the next week will celebrate six months clean and sober!!! What a wonderful Christmas we enjoyed this year!!! Gone were the tears that came with hearing certain Christmas carols that reminded us of her this year we sang them together, we hoped for a "white christmas", instead of fearing that she may be cold, hungry, and alone, although we certainly prayed and remebered all who weren't as fortunate and blessed as we are. We will always believe you and Oasis are such a hugh part of her recovery. We just love and appreciate you and what you do so much Jim, you'll just never know. Although we don't see you often, we think of you and talk of you frequently and ALWAYS let people who are dealing with the disease of addiction that if they want to get well they need to do it right the very first time and go to Oasis. We will always feel gratitude and love for you and Oasis.

In addition to having Kimmie home alive and very well, we also have our beautiful grandchild Alivia, another little life that was cared for and helped along by Oasis! She's now almost two, and so perfect it's nothing short of one of God's miracles that we give so many thanks for!! She is so intelligent, so beautiful, really just an enchanting little creature whom we all love so much and are so very thankful for. What a gift!!! It really must feel extraordinary to know that you have helped so many people get well. I believe there are angels among us and many times when I look into my daughter's eyes, share a laugh or a hug with her, or pick up Alivia and put her on my lap to read her a story or just smell her hair I know that you must be one of them. Thank you...

We hope you and Kathy have a wonderful New Year filled with love, health, and beautiful memories!!!

With love and gratitude,

Keri & Jon F.
